The Opportunity

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Pipeline Engineer to join us in our Infrastructure Engineering team in Brisbane or Melbourne on a fixed term basis for 18 months.

You will be APA's Lead or Senior Pipeline Engineer supporting the delivery of APAs $1.5 Billion / annum of Capital projects. You will form an integral part of the high performance teams delivering APA's world-class Energy Infrastructure Projects including a number of nation defining pipelines across the country. This includes several pipeline projects which transport hydrogen.

Reporting to the Team Discipline Lead - Pipelines and Process, you will play a key role in To undertake, support and lead engineering design, technical document preparation, package engineering, construction and commissioning engineering activities in the delivery of projects for new assets and upgrades to existing pipelines, end of line facilities and interconnecting plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate as an integral member of a design team as a Senior and / or Lead Pipeline Engineer for APA's growth projects
  • Prepare design calculations and documentation for Prefeasibility, FEED and Detail Design Phases. Calculations may including pipe wall thickness, pipeline assemblies stress analysis, fracture toughness, fatigue, road crossing, rail crossing, penetration resistance, hydro test etc.
  • Act as Owner's Engineer for APA projects to manage engineering consultants;
  • Documents to be prepared may include Scope of Work (Engineering), Fracture Control Plans, Pipeline Isolation Plans, and Material Take off, technical specifications, data sheets, reports, drawings, material selection reports etc.
  • Ensure engineering and design documentation prepared by APA, external engineering service providers, or vendors meet project/stakeholder requirements, statutory and licence requirements
  • Package engineer for pipeline related packages such as line pipe, Induction bends, MIJ, pipeline valves and actuators, pipeline high strength fittings, quick opening closures, geotech and geophysical Investigations, pipeline easement surveys, hydrogeological studies.
  • Will be required to prepare and review engineering work packs for tender and purchase purposes. Also, preparation of technical bid evaluation during tender phase
  • Develop and contribute to quality documentation such as Inspection and Test Plans, procedures, and document reviews,
  • Responsible for AS2885 Safety Management Studies (SMS) including preparation, planning and close out of actions.
Your background
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering admitting to corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia or equivalent (Required)
  • Chartered or Registered Professional Engineer (Preferred) - APGA/ NER Registration for “Oil and gas pipeline engineering” area of practice is not essential, however is highly regarded
  • Proven experience in design, construction, operation or maintenance of gas transmission pipelines and stations
  • Knowledge of hydrogen pipeline design (Preferred)
  • Knowledge and practical use of Australian and International Pipeline and related Standards (AS2885, ASME B31.3, B31.8, and B31.12). Must have knowledge and exposure to associated Australian and International reference standards
  • Knowledge and application experience of Geographic Information System (GIS),
  • A working knowledge of Australian Environmental, Health and Safety legislative requirements
  • Knowledge and practical use of Australian and International Equipment and related Standards (API 6D, API 5L, AS 3862)
