The Opportunity

This position is based at our Walyalup (Fremantle) headquarters located within Walyalup Koort. It's a great location close to the Fremantle Markets, various new cafes and eateries (click here to find out more), car parks and the Fremantle train station.

This position sits within the the Office for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence, which was established within the Department of Communities (Communities) in March 2022 to elevate the profile of family and domestic violence and provide the stewardship needed within Communities and across government to deliver improved outcomes in the areas of primary prevention, Aboriginal family safety, victim survivor safety and perpetrator accountability. The Office is comprised of four teams including: Strategic Policy; System Reform and Innovation; Practice; and Family and Domestic Violence Response Team Central.

The role of the Practice team is to provide consistent and quality responses to family and domestic violence via implementation of the One Communities Family and Domestic Violence Practice Approach. This includes developing and implementing a single agency policy setting, service delivery model, workforce development strategy and approach to monitoring performance and evaluation.

The practice work within Communities is aligned to, and important for, a number of the agencies strategic priorities including the safety of women and children (Target 13 of Closing the Gap), reducing the number of Aboriginal children in out of home care (Target 12 of Closing the Gap), access to safe housing and stable tenancies, and promoting access and inclusion within WA communities.

The Senior Policy and Practice Officer is responsible for:

  • contributing to the development and implementation of policies and Practices relating to family and domestic violence,
  • maintaining an expert awareness of relevant issues and trends within the State, nationally and internationally,
  • Project managing key reform initiatives,
  • contributing to research, implementation and the evaluation of key strategies as well as Operational Policy and Planning frameworks,
  • contributing to the planning and evaluation functions of the Directorate, and
  • providing advice and support to the Manager and other senior staff on policy development and implementation issues.
