The Planning & Building Services Department provides statutory services for the built environment and planning regulations within Glen Eira. There are three teams within the Department, being:
- Urban Planning
- Statutory Building Services
- Planning and Building Customer Experience and Support
Depending on your qualifications and level of experience, you may be able to join us as a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer or a Principal Planning Enforcement Officer.As part of our Planning Enforcement Team, you will provide specialist services to facilitate compliance with the requirements of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Glen Eira Planning Scheme, Planning Permits and other related legislation and regulations as they relate to the development and use of land for the benefit of the municipality.You will also provide coaching, mentoring and support for the Planning Enforcement staff on planning investigation techniques.You will play an important role to engender public confidence in our regulatory services by auditing adherence to permit conditions, educating the public on expectations and taking appropriate action to rectify identified breaches. Your enthusiasm and confidence will have a positive influence on those around you, and your professionalism will enhance Council's reputation as a responsive and efficient organization.Other responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Investigate planning complaints and inspect properties to check compliance with legislation, including the Glen Eira Planning Scheme and planning permits.
- Prepare and present information and evidence at hearings before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Courts of legal jurisdiction, or other panels as required.
- Advise and educate property owners and occupiers of their obligations under planning and related legislation, the planning scheme and planning permits.
- Under the direction of the Coordinator or Manager Planning and Building services, prepare and initiate legal proceedings including the issuing of Planning Infringement Notices, Enforcement Orders at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal or prosecution of matters at Courts of legal jurisdiction.
- Prepare professionally presented and accurate correspondence on all matters relevant to the position or other matters as directed by the Coordinator or Manager Planning and Building Services
As part of our Planning Enforcement team, you will provide responsive, high-quality service to the community and Council by ensuring compliance with statutory obligations. You will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills to ensure clear dissemination of Council information and conflict resolution.The following is also required:
- Experience in planning or law enforcement is essential.
- Tertiary Qualification in Town Planning or a related field or extensive experience in Planning Enforcement and specialist expertise, including experience at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and/or Magistrate's Court.
- Drivers license
