Senior Product Designer, Perth - Australia

About The Design Team You'll Be Joining

We are committed to making a meaningful difference to the 49,000 people across Rio Tinto as they do their day-to-day jobs through our software. To do that well, and to deliver on our promises as a business, we know that user-centred design matters.

Across the landscape of software products needed to support a business of our size, we need to grow our Product Design team to several times its current size. Make no mistake, this is a unique opportunity to grow personally along with helping to scale a team that is driving new product development.

What we are looking for

As our Senior Product Designer, you will

  • You can influence product decisions with product owners, software developers, and other designers based on UX best practices, design principles and research.
  • You can present work in a clear and compelling manner to stakeholders (be able to explain design recommendations by citing best practices, research data or business requirements).
  • You have an in-depth understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • You have a proven ability to collaborate effectively in an Agile environment across disciplines, product lines, roles, geographical and time zone boundaries.
  • You are comfortable coordinating and running workshops of various types with multiple stakeholders.
  • You have a strong understanding of user-centered design principles and a solid grasp of trends in web and app design. Where you can consistently advocate for the user and collaborate with business owners to develop features and flows that align with business and user needs.
  • You are a problem solver who can clearly define problem statements and is excited by the challenge.
  • You will use your knowledge of UX principles to create engaging experiences across web, mobile and tablet; to simplify complex problems.

And it's essential that you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science, Visual Design, Communication Design or other related discipline, or equivalent experience or training.
  • Strong portfolio that shows insights into your UX process and demonstratescreative problem-solving skills and conceptual thinking.
  • 5 plus years of experience as a UX practitioner with a background in user experience design, interaction design or similar.
  • Worked with a cross-functional team using agile methodologyfrom inception to implementation to deliver impactful user
  • Strong skills in modern design and prototyping tools (Figma, Axure, Sketch, Zeplin, Adobe CC).
