Due to growth in our business as a market leading school uniform supplier based in the SE suburbs of Melbourne, we are looking for an experienced highly motivated garment Senior Product Developer to join our Melbourne based product team, as we transition into an exciting growth phase.
Reporting to the Head of Product, the successful candidate will take responsibility for executing presentation boards for clients, artwork updates, fabric and style selection, right through to sample co-ordination with our factory. This role will play an important part in the development of new products to meet our clients’ briefs, this role is an on site position 5 days per week.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Working closely with sales and product team to understand customer needs, advising sales staff of the best solutions for their customers and establishing a joint brief for all new products.
- To produce visual appealing, industry leading and on brand customer presentations.
- Drawing up garment designs or modifying designs through to preparation of colour storyboards for customer presentations using illustrator and photoshop.
- Propose new and fresh ideas and styles.
- Create garments and accessories that consistently fit, meet size standards and are properly constructed.
- Work closely with the factory to develop new styles and samples for customers.
- Considers consumption of stock fabrics, trims and colours as part of the design process to ensure you are developing products that are workable from a production perspective.
- Supported by staff in our China office, ensure all data relating to a product is recorded in Tech-Packs, AX system and sales collateral.
- Acts as the ‘go to’ for the Sales Team for advice re product range.
- Assists the Sales Team with re-designs and updates to existing customer ranges.
- Liaises between the Sales Team and the China Product Development Team to ensure samples development is seamless and cost effective.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date data in relevant systems.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Tertiary qualification in garment construction, fashion design or graphic design.
- Have advanced Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator skills – specifically around garment technical sketching and presentation boards. A folio will be required to display these skills.
- Have a solid understanding of garment construction and the design and development process form initial concept through sampling and production.
- Min 3+ years demonstrated experience in a garment product development or product co-ordinator role.
- Experience working in school uniforms, teamwear, sportswear or corporate uniform will be an advantage.
- Demonstrated understanding of fabric behavior, manufacturing procedures and product engineering
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a “can do” positive attitude.
- Be experienced working with offshore suppliers.
- Understanding of the garment sublimation/ printing process and the production ready artwork a strong advantage.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to meet critical deadlines.
- Initiative to recognise or identify potential problems and resolution skills to implement solutions accordingly.
Knowledge of an ERP system is not essential but would be highly regarded as the successful candidate will have to learn to use Microsoft Dynamics AX.
