Where you'll be working

Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. RNSH provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services.

What you'll be doing

The Senior Production Unit Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the organisation, manufacture and procurement of all specialised aseptic pharmaceuticals prepared and dispensed for inpatients and outpatients at Royal North Shore Hospital. This includes cytotoxic/hazardous therapies, total parenteral nutrition and other sterile products such as eye drops and patient specific parenteral analgesia.

  • Provide expert guidance and advice to the pharmacists and technicians regarding aseptic and non aseptic manufacturing
  • Coordinate the manufacture and procurement of aseptically prepared pharmaceuticals including cytotoxic/hazardous therpies, total parenteral nutrition and other sterile products 
  • Participate in clinical pharmacy services provision including the general roster as required, including participating in weekend, public holiday and on-call rosters
  • Participating in relevant research projects and presenting at professional conferences & publication in relevant journals
  • Involvement in education of health professionals and consumers about medicines
  • Collaboration with other services in the preparation of aseptic manufactured pharmaceuticals
  • Staff supervision, support and development of pharmacists and technicians working in the Production Pharmacy
  • Lead the department in implementation of relevant policy directives, quality assurance and compliance

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Current registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (or eligible for immediate registration) with no conditions or restrictions on practice and evidence of extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
  2. Proven high level of competence, expertise, skills, and ability to apply clinical judgment to provide advanced level clinical pharmacy services in the area of aseptic and extemporaneous pharmaceutical production.
  3. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the requirements for complex aseptic compounding according to national standards and guidelines as applicable to NSW Public Hospitals.
  4. Ability to cultivate resilience and wellbeing in challenging situations
  5. Commitment to and demonstrated expertise in education, mentoring and training, and the ability to impart knowledge and skills to pharmacy staff, students, hospital clinicians, and other stakeholders.
