The Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Regional Conservation Officer to join our Northern Inland Regional Team.The Senior Regional Conservation Officer works as part of a friendly and enthusiastic team to provide technical and ecological expertise and support to the delivery of BCT’s programs in the Northern Inland region.About youAs a Senior Regional Conservation Officer, you will:

  • Provide effective landholder support and engagement (including site visits and assessments, offering guidance and advice, developing and administering conservation agreements) to landholders that are seeking to enter, or have entered into conservation agreements on Private Land.
  • work collaboratively with the Northern Inland Team and other staff across the organisation to ensure best practice methods in the management of a variety of Private Land Conservation agreements
  • bring your ecological knowledge and experience in practical on-ground ecological rapid assessment methodologies to this role, further enhancing your ability to deliver effective landholder support.
  • Utilise exceptional administration and project management skills, crucial for coordinating various tasks, landholders, and timelines effectively. Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is also required.
Essential RequirementsTo be the right person for this role you will:
  • Have relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in natural resource management or biodiversity conservation
  • Have demonstrated ability to use Geographic Information Systems software to develop, manage, query and display spatial data relevant to property level management plans.
  • Have a current Australian Class C driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
  • Have a broad understanding of the NSW BCT’s legislative, strategic and operational framework, ecological expertise, and experience dealing with landholders to achieve biodiversity outcomes.
This is a physically active role suited to people who are fit, enjoy working outdoors with landholders and as part of a team, to contribute toward the BCT’s vision of improving and maintaining biodiversity across NSW through Private Landholders. This role includes a combination of office-based and field-based work and may on occasion include travelling to and working in remote areas.About usThe Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) of NSW is a small, focussed Agency (within DCCEEW) with a clear statutory mission and functions. We manage over 2,000 existing long-term agreements with landholders by actively supporting them to protect biodiversity on their land, and we have funded strategies to grow Private Land Conservation. We have an important statutory role as part of delivering conservation outcomes under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme.The BCT Northern Inland Region covers the Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains, Narrabri, Tamworth, Moree, Walgett, Armidale, Walcha, Gwydir, Inverell, Uralla and Tenterfield LGAs. This area includes a range of ecosystems, land-uses and agreement types. We manage Offset Conservation Agreements and Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements as part of Biodiversity offset scheme, as well as Private Land Conservation agreements, providing landholder support and engagement.We are a group of motivated staff delivering high-integrity biodiversity outcomes in NSW, under the direction of a strong statutory Board.
