What you will be doing

As part of our continued focus on the Australia and New Zealand market, we are enhancing the Cyber Defence Engineering Team who work within the Cyber Defence Capability to deliver security services at the highest standard for our customers.

The Senior Security Engineer will be part of the Cyber Defence Engineering Team, specialising in providing SIEM Engineering functions. The candidate can be responsible for a variety of different security technologies and customers however they will be primarily responsible for supporting, deploying and planning Sentinel infrastructure and environments used by our 24/7 Security Operations Center (SOC) where Security Analysts monitor customer environments for security incidents.

Only candidates able to gain or currently holding a current Australian Federal Government Security Clearance at Baseline will be considered for this role. Australian Citizenship is mandatory.

What will keep you busy

  • Gain an understanding of the device types and log sources captured in our SIEM to be able to produce analytic rules to aid in detection of security incidents

  • Identify gaps in security monitoring techniques and devise solutions / recommendations to improve coverage

  • Onboarding of data into Sentinel environment and normalising it where applicable (i.e. field extraction) / ensuring data is compliant with best practices

  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide range of issues and liaise with key stakeholders

  • Provide support (as required) to P1 and P2 security incidents, specifically to those detected by our SIEM platform(s)

  • Work with key stakeholders to scope requirements for new projects.\

  • Work with the Cyber Defence Engineering Manager to develop a roadmap for the Sentinel platform to enhance the service offering

  • Identify and implement automations within the platform to perform remediation tasks for detected security incidents

The skills you will bring

  • 3+ years experience working within either: a medium to large enterprise managed services provider or a medium to large organisation

  • 3+ years' experience in implementing and supporting SIEM products including: Splunk (e.g Splunk Core, Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud)/Microsoft Azure Sentinel/Micro Focus ArcSight/LogRythm /IBM Qradar/Sumo Logic

  • Either: Diploma/Certificate/Degree in Information Technology (Security preferred) and relevant industry/vendor certifications such as Security+, SSCP, CISSP, Microsoft AZ900, Microsoft AZ-500, Splunk Core Certified User, Splunk Core Certified Power User, Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin, Splunk SOAR

  • Demonstrated experience with automation services such as Security Orchestration and Automation Response, CI/CD platforms, Ansible, Puppet, Chef etc

  • Experience in customer service support

  • Experience in implementing, configuring, and supporting dedicated and/or hybrid cloud workloads on any of the following: Amazon Web Services/Microsoft AzureGoogle Cloud Platform

  • Proficiency with one high-level programming or scripting language such as Python, PowerShell etc

  • Understanding of the TCP/IP and networking concepts (OSI model) to troubleshoot connectivity issues

  • Understanding of core infrastructure technologies, such as Active Directory, Virtual Desktops, Windows and MAC OS, Windows and Linux servers Virtual Infrastructure, Operational tooling, and Cloud services

  • Strong team player that collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporate input from various sources
