Our client, a national organisation within the aviation sector, are currently seeking a Senior Systems Safety Specialist for an initial 6-month contract, 20 hours per week only.
The Enterprise Network Modernisation Program (ENMP) will introduce substantial changes to operational (mission-critical) and corporate networks that will ensure existing systems remain connected and continue to meet their service requirements. The program is responsible for ensuring existing service capabilities while developing and implementing a replacement network and updating communications and surveillance systems as part of an ongoing transition to a broad range of capabilities.
Your role as a Senior System Safety Specialist will be to develop safety arguments, design the safety program, lead safety activities (with a focus on applying suitable hazard identification and risk analysis methods), author safety case reports, and be responsible for the development and execution of the safety program for several ENMP projects. Your activities will be formally documented in safety plans, risk registers and safety cases.
The System Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the changes undertaken in the conduct of the ENMP safety program are performed in accordance to the Safety Management System (SMS) and are acceptably safe.The incumbent will be involved in embedding safety by design principles in the design of equipment, systems, software, airspace and procedures with the aim of reducing the potential for errors, injury and risk. You will also engage with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority as the regulator of aviation safety. The role would suit an experienced professional with great communication skills.

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications required:

• Practical experience as a System Safety Engineer within a safety regulated industry (e.g. Aviation, Rail, Oil and Gas, Defence).
• Tertiary qualifications in system safety, engineering, computer science, or related field.
• Essential - Demonstrated experience applying industry best practice system safety analysis techniques/methodologies (e.g. ARP 4761, MIL-STD 882E, IEC-61508, Eurocontrol (SAM)
• Demonstrated experience developing safety arguments/safety cases for large scale, complex projects within a safety regulated industry.
• Expertise in system safety engineering including executing core system safety analysis techniques (including PHA, FHA, FTA, HAZOP, FMECA, etc.).
• Understanding of systems engineering processes, their influence on the timing of system safety engineering activities, and inputs/outputs that exist between the different disciplines that contribute to the systems engineering design process is essential.
• Understanding of human factors application in evaluating change is highly desirable.
• Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders, foster relationships, facilitate partnerships and cooperation at all levels.
