Job description

Purpose

This role provides critical finance support to the Australian Business Unit in the areas of tax compliance, tax accounting and tax advisory and planning.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Tax compliance, tax reporting and tax effect accounting activities and deliverables including (but not limited to):

  • Preparation of the Consolidated income tax return including liaison with the External Tax consultants to facilitate their review and lodgement.

  • Preparation of the CFC calculations and Thin Capitalisation calculations for the purposes of finalising the Group’s tax effect accounting calculations and Consolidated Tax return.

  • Provision of support as required to the Executive Manager Taxation to assist in the management of the planning and strategy of transfer pricing for cross border transactions, including CBC reporting.

  • Preparation of regular BAS and other statutory reporting obligations for the Australian Group.

  • Management of the preparation and lodgement of the FBT return in conjunction with the external outsource consultant.

  • Compliance activities associated with ensuring the Group complies with FIRB tax conditions.

  • Monitoring Australian tax instalments and other payment requirements, ensuring obligations are met.

  • Preparation of periodic tax calculations in accordance with AASB112 including reconciliation of balance sheet proofs for deferred tax balances and tax provisions for the Australian Group, and the preparation of the tax notes to feed into the Statutory accounts.

  • Provision of training on tax related matters to finance staff as required and in conjunction with the Group’s internal training program.

  • Preparation of on-going Shareholder reporting obligations (SASAC, CBC and monthly taxes paid and forecasts).

  • Liaising with the Australian Taxation Office to manage tax related issues.

  • Assisting with regular updates to tax policies, procedures and associated process maps to ensure that a high-quality tax governance framework is maintained.

Tax advisory activities and deliverables including (but not limited to):

  • Provision of support as required to the Executive Manager, Taxation in the provision of tax advice during the initial assessment stages and due diligence of new business opportunities in Australia and abroad.

  • Provision of support as required to the Executive Manager Taxation to research, analyse and provide recommendations in relation to the preferred structures to facilitate acquisitions/divestments and/or the development of new projects and business opportunities, including the preferred funding arrangements of such projects.

  • Provision of tax advice (including the Tax Effect Accounting implications) to Business Unit line managers and/or Financial Services as required in relation to income taxes, withholding taxes, employment taxes and transaction taxes (including GST, VAT, sales taxes and stamp duty) both in Australia and internationally.

  • Preparation of tax technical papers as required (e.g. reasonably arguable position papers, private rulings requests, submissions to comment on draft legislation).

  • Monitoring and analysing the implications for the group of changes in tax law, both in Australia and internationally, and develop solutions to minimise any adverse implications or to maximise the benefits of any favourable changes.

  • Provision of support as required to the Executive Manager Taxation on ad-hoc projects and assignments as directed.

  • Ensure that the Company’s compliance obligations are actively maintained, managed, and kept up to date with particular focus on the compliance obligations allocated to the position title as identified in the Company’s Register of Compliance Obligations (as set out in the Compliance Procedure and as amended from time to time).
