Job description

There is two new exciting opportunities within the Light Rail Team to be the Senior Technical Engineers.

The role of Senior Technical Engineer Light Rail reports to the Executive Branch Manager, Technical Development and works closely with staff and project advisors across Major Projects Canberra, Transport Canberra and City Services, Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development directorate, City Renewal Authority, Canberra Metro, the Independent Certifier, Technical Advisor/s and within the ACT Government as necessary.

The Senior Technical Engineer, will assist the Project in liaising with important project stakeholders, overseeing the receipt of technical advisory services by the Territory, managing design development through approvals and business case, project transition from approvals to business case to procurement and then delivery, including planning approvals, managing budgets, and ensuring the project outcomes are delivered in a timely and value for money manner.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Positions classified as Infrastructure Manager/Specialist require the occupant to hold recognised qualifications and/or experience in one or more of the following fields:

  1. Engineering – a four year degree or higher qualification accredited by Engineers Australia or Professionals Australia for recognition as a Professional Engineer (including recognition of equivalent overseas Engineering qualifications) and a minimum of ten years’ relevant experience in Engineering; or
  2. Architecture – a three year degree or higher qualification accredited by an Australian State or Territory Architecture authority for recognition as a Professional Architect (including recognition of equivalent overseas qualifications) and a minimum of ten years relevant experience in Architecture; or
  3. Project Management – either:
    1. a Diploma in Project Management accredited by an Australian State or Territory tertiary education institution (or an equivalent overseas qualification that is eligible for reciprocal recognition in Australia) and a minimum of ten years relevant experience in Project Management; or
    2. certification by a professional body, such as the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), to the level of Certified Practicing Project Director (CPPD) or Certified Practicing Portfolio Executive (CPPE), in addition to a relevant Degree or higher qualification issued by an Australian State or Territory tertiary education institution (or an equivalent overseas qualification that is eligible for reciprocal recognition in Australia) and a minimum of ten years’ relevant experience in Project Management; or
    3. have a least 10 years’ relevant experience in Project Management.

Notes: This opportunity is to fill two permanent positions within Light Rail. An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
