About Us
The Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) is large and complex with six schools, research centres, engineering laboratories, IT laboratories and a large technical workshop. In 2018, UTS Tech Lab will come online, a university research facility encompassing significant engineering and IT laboratories, which will establish FEIT as a key research leader. UTS Tech Lab will enable the research outputs of FEIT to continue to grow and will offer our research leaders a greater opportunity to collaborate with peers across disciplines, schools and faculties as well as industry partners.
About the Role
The Faculty of Engineering and IT are currently recruiting for a Senior Technical Support Officer (STSO) to join the Mechanical, Mechatronics and Robotics (MMR) team on a full-time, continuing basis. The Senior Technical Support Officer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of complex and/ or specialised technical equipment and facilities within their functional cluster, and where required, other functional clusters. This role will also coach and mentor less experienced technical staff on a day-to-day basis, while supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students, other faculty staff and external stakeholders with research and industrial projects.
The STSO will work across a number of different functional spaces at the City Campus and Tech Lab at Botany supporting and assisting academic staff and students in the use of laboratory facilities and scheduling the maintenance of equipment to ensure it meets the requirements of the faculty. This will require specialised technical and professional knowledge and skills relating to laboratory equipment to provide ongoing support for FEIT teaching and research. The STSO is expected to demonstrate a high level of collaboration and operational flexibility and will often work across structural boundaries traditionally found in engineering.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate professionally and knowledgeably with academics, students, and industry collaborators
• Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and schedule work within required time frames
• Maintain full competency in technology and knowledge of experimental techniques, include test methodology, to undertake tasks required by technicians, engineers, and academic staff within the laboratories
• Demonstrated excellent technical skills in Mechatronics including hardware, software… in protypes and/or industrial products and/or projects
• Experience in ensuring health and safety and risk management practices are in place within a complex technical environment
Remuneration
Base Salary: $100,695 to $111,394 pa (HEW 7)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
