In the role of Senior Transport Inspector you will maximise the safety of all transport users and protect Queensland road infrastructure by influencing the public and industry to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. The role balances education and quality customer service with enforcement.Accountabilities include:• Lead and manage a team by:- Managing and supervising staff including recruitment and selection, performance management, training and developing staff, ethical behaviour and decision-making.- Providing a safe and healthy workplace through managing resources to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety legislation, codes of practice, standards and departmental policy and procedures including risk management and corrective action programs.• Provide expert advice and education to stakeholders including members of the public, transport industry, other government and law enforcement agencies in relation to legislation, procedures and standards to encourage and ensure road use compliance and road safety.• Develop and manage a program of activities to improve road usage, ensure road safety and protect road infrastructure and provide input into the development of compliance strategies for the Region in relation to the provision of achievable compliance outcomes.• Manage and take responsibility for operations, rosters and budgets to ensure the achievement of delivery unit outcomes to agreed performance standards and targets in a cost effective and timely manner.• Lead, plan and manage significant and complex and extensive vehicle inspection programs, audits and investigations.• Plan and manage intelligence gathering and surveillance activities to support compliance outcomes and effective reporting.• Monitor and oversee quality and standards within the team including the issue of official departmental documents in accordance with legislative requirements.• Approve business exceptions to regulatory requirements and coordinate follow up enforcement action to ensure road users comply with legislation.• Monitor practices and trends relating to road use compliance and road safety, provide operational input into the development of compliance strategies for the region and recommend amendments to legislation, policies, strategies andprocedures to improve compliance outcomes.• Prepare high quality complex reports and correspondence.• Represent the Department at court hearings and provide advice on matters relating to offences.Please refer to the attached Role Description for information on the role and how to apply.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/548452/24Closing Date: Tuesday, 12 March 2024
