The Role:
This role is for an experienced Web Content Writer to work alongside the Project Manager to review and rewrite the content of several websites to meet Government readability and accessibility standards and is WCAG 2.1 AA compliant.
You will be responsible for editing existing Web Content and creating new content for multiple websites. You will use best practices for content clarity, quality, and accessibility to provide a positive user experience.
To succeed in the role, you will have demonstrated experience in writing accessible, user-friendly Web Content that is WCAG 2.1 AA compliant for Government websites. You will have knowledge of the Australian Style Manual and experience with the Queensland Government’s Web writing and style guide will be considered favourably.
Key Duties and Accountabilities:
- Review and consolidate existing web and PDF content on Departmental websites to ensure it adheres to best practice standards for Web Content.
- Develop customer focused Web Content in consultation with subject matter experts.
- Ensure content is:
- – customer-focused
- – in Plain English
- – has a readability grade level 9 (or as near as possible)
- – integrates SEO best practice for copywriting
- – supports the F-shaped scanning habit of readers
- – supports device accessibility
- – meets all usability and accessibility standards (including WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Collaborate and negotiate with stakeholders both internally and externally as required to source, edit and approve content.
- Provide advice to business areas about the most effective ways to deliver content for the best customer experience.
- In consultation with the Project Manager, contribute to departmental policies, standards and administrative procedures for developing customer centric, WCAG 2.1 AA compliant Web Content.
- Be a problem solver who enjoys collaborating with colleagues to understand obstacles and find pathways to getting stuff done.
- Be open to sharing work and receiving feedback, including from senior stakeholders and colleagues.
- Proven experience writing WCAG 2.1 AA compliant Web Content.
- The ability to consistently meet tight deadlines.
- Self-directed in customer contact and management of workflow.
- Excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and communicate and collaborate effectively.
- A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related field is not required but will be looked upon favourably.
