About the role
This role is responsible for providing support and assistance to Aboriginal children and young people aged 10 years to 21 years and those who are at risk of offending or reoffending and those currently involved with Youth Justice. The role includes a combination of community development, care co-ordination, youth engagement, support, supervision, mentoring, and connection of at risk young Aboriginal people to existing Aboriginal and other community support services.
About You
- Relevant qualification in social work, youth work, community services or related discipline or significant lived experience relevant to the role
- A minimum 3-5yrs experience as a youth worker or in a relevant field
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
- Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Youth Justice system in Victoria.
- Understanding of issues contributing to young people offending .
- Requirement: Current COVID-19 vaccination, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Drivers Licence
