This role is based at Perisher, the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere, located in the beautiful Snowy Mountains region of South-Eastern NSW and just a two-hour drive from Canberra and the Far South Coast. Perisher is part of Vail Resorts who own and operate ski areas including iconic resorts including Falls Creek and Hotham in Australia as well as Park City, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb and Vail in North America.
The Snowmaking Fitter will be responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the snowmaking plant and equipment. This will include pumps, compressors, snowmaking guns. You may be required to work night shifts, liaise with other on-mountain departments, and complete maintenance as required. You will need to be physically fit as this role requires you to shovel snow, climb ladders, de-ice equipment, drive snowmobiles, and traverse steep slopes. Winter operations will also include assisting lift operations and the maintenance of our ropeways.
In a typical day in this role, you might:
Winter
- Assist Mountain Operations with lift openings and maintenance.
- Liaise with snowmaking management team on any overnight breakdowns that need repairing
- Carry out preventative maintenance work on the Perisher snowmaking system and associated infrastructure
Summer
- Assist with the planning and scheduling of snowmaking summer maintenance works
- Carry out maintenance on large water pumps, air compressors, both fan and manual snowmaking guns as well as pipelines, hydrants, and valving systems
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A current unrestricted driver's licence
- Trade Qualification in Fitting or Plant Mechanics
- A high work ethic and dependability to scheduled work
- Ability to communicate well with others
