Job description

UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded the early works contract to support Powerlink's delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project will initially involve 840 kilometres of new transmission line running from just south of Townsville to Mount Isa that will connect Queensland's Northwest Minerals Province to the national electricity grid. The project scope includes:

  • 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from just south of Townsville to Hughenden
  • 330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
  • 220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa
  • Up to six new substation sites.
Preliminary site works are already underway, with construction of workforce accommodation and facilities in strategic locations along the project corridor due to commence mid-2024.About the Role:The Social Impact & Industry Capability Manager will assist the Project in achieving its local procurement and inclusion commitments, ensuring strategy, implementation, and management of activities to drive success.Reporting to the Stakeholder & Community Relations Director, you will work closely with the internal project delivery teams and the Client, to deliver on our commitments to the region and in line with our company objectives.This role will be based in Brisbane with travel to the Project Region.Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and support the establishment of key relationships with Local and Industry groups and organisations, Traditional Owners, and support networks throughout the region.
  • Identify and enable local procurement connections, identify and evaluate opportunities for social benefit suppliers to be engaged.
  • Working with the Procurement Manager, build visibility and profile within the North and Northwest Queensland business community and maximise opportunities for local businesses and social benefit providers.
  • Develop, implement and review the process for engaging Local and social benefit suppliers, working with procurement team and social business industry bodies such as Social Traders to identify opportunities.
  • Identify and promote employment opportunities with a focus on local sustainable job outcomes for disadvantaged groups.
  • Work with the Human Resources team to develop and deliver initiatives for employment and pathway programmes for disadvantaged cohorts.
  • Together with the Communications and Engagement team, promote employment opportunities with local schools, TAFE and other learning institutions.
  • Act as the principal point of contact regarding local employment opportunities for regions along the project alignment.
  • Support subcontractors and suppliers to engage personnel from disadvantaged groups and other social benefit suppliers to assist in meeting project targets and commitments.
  • Manage and review supplier pre-qualification processes to ensure cascading of commitments throughout the entire project.
  • Monitor, review and report on progress towards targets, key performance indicators.
Requirements for this role:
  • Experience in a similar role related to local content, local economic participation, social inclusion and indigenous engagement within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of government policies and requirements in the construction industry.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain key client, project and stakeholder relationships.
  • Capability to engage and influence various project delivery teams to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Be solutions orientated and have highly developed planning, organisational and coordination skills.
  • You will display natural leadership qualities and the ability to effectively negotiate solutions and deliver on commitments, and positively influencing throughout all levels of the business.
