About the business

Fitzgerald Aged Care has been especially designed for the enjoyment of older people in the Hawkesbury who can access help with day-to-day living while retaining their independence.  A total of 48 residents can be accommodated at this beautiful venue which, features spectacular views, fully equipped kitchen, dining rooms, large common areas, balconies and gardens.  The facility maintains 46 permanent residents and 2 respite residents.  This project would not have been possible without the support of the Hawkesbury community.

About the role

Key responsibilities are to ensure that:

  • providing residents with quality care and actively supporting them to maintain their skill levels, independence and mobility and providing support to their family/carers
  • planning and organisation of a variety of diverse planned and responsive/spontaneous activities
  • ensuring individual resident's needs, values, spiritual and cultural preferences are taken into account when providing recreational care
  • completing documented assessments which determine and clearly state capabilities, needs and problems
  • ensure all residents are respected and treated with empathy and dignity
  • new residents are well supported during entry to provide comfort and confidence
  • the role contributes to the provision of support for residents and families in moments of need such as when palliative care is required/provided
  • recruit, train and support volunteers
  • promote holistic, person-centred care by assessing and evaluating residents' social needs to enhance their social well being
  • coordinate appropriate responses to needs through the direct provision of support or by arranging and facilitating other relevant services.
  • develop strong collaborative relationships with staff and volunteers involved in the care of individuals and provide support to family members ensuring a team approach to resident's social well being
  • comply with Fitzgerald's values, policies and procedures and work within a our ethos.

Skills and experience

The Skills, Knowledge and Experience required:

  • Relevant qualifications in any of the fields of Community Development, Pastoral Care, Mental Health, Social Work or related disciplines (e.g. Bachelor level degree)
  • capacity to source, design and implement activities that foster connection and well-being.
  • strong communication, interpersonal, spiritual and wellbeing skills
  • at least two years' experience preferably within an aged care or health setting.
  • able to exercise an impartial delivery of support for daily living to promote each residents emotional, spiritual and psychological wellbeing regardless of race, creed or faith.
  • experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.
