The Clinic, Hospital and Nursing home are part of the same complex. It is a 40 beds service (24-high care and 16-beds low care). Acute admissions are usually transferred to Mildura. The clinic enjoys a supportive relationship between the RN/Ward and the P/N – they are both there to support the GP. When a patient presents to the Urgent Care Department, the RN will assess and triage with the reception staff/GP to determine the urgency of treatment.
The clinic can By-Pass the ambulance at any given time, meaning that an emergency is taken directly to Mildura rather than their Urgent Care Dept. (the EDON/NUM can easily arrange this if the locum wants a night or weekend off).
Further information about accommodation and meals:
Accommodation: The clinic’s recently renovated accommodation is first class. They have two units available, and both have three bedrooms with Queen size beds in the master, two single king beds in the second bedroom with the 3rd bedroom furnished as an office/study.
Meals: The pantry and fridge in the unit will be stocked with milk, butter, bread, cereal, coffee/tea/sugar, fruit and condiments before the locum placement. Midday and evening meals are available from the hospital with options of a hot meal, dessert, soup, sandwiches, and cold meat/salad plates.
About the location
Home to the Wergaia people, Ouyen is one of the largest towns in the Mallee area, the last region of Victoria to be settled. It is surrounded by a beautiful array of national parks, including Wyperfeld, Hattah- Kulkyne and Murray Sunset National Parks. All three parks have an abundance of drought-resistant
wildflowers (as many as 100 varieties), unique wildlife and breathtaking landscapes, with access tracks throughout.
Things to do
See the largest mallee stump in Australia, located beside the Calder Highway in the heart of town. You can visit Murray Sunset National Park, the state's second-largest, is a semi-arid area that offers vast open spaces, a plenitude of wildlife and an array of colourful wildflowers in spring. Also, you can try exploring the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, which is based around the Hattah Lakes system, which is filled by Chalka Creek, an anabranch of the Murray River.
You can also visit the Murray-Kulkyne, a popular area for fishing, swimming, bushwalking and boating. As this is not a national park, generators and pets are allowed. Camping is permitted along the River.
