About the role
Under the guidance of the Senior Solution Architect, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders, including business users, architects, delivery teams, and vendors, to create architecture designs that align with Seqwater's enterprise architecture, DTI strategies, reference models, and framework.
Your role is essential in designing and ensuring stable and standardized operational technology environments. With your extensive expertise in operational technology domains, you will apply best practices to enhance technology implementation across water catchment, treatment, and transport services.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Professional Engineering Services: Deliver engineering services focused on cost-effectiveness, risk reduction, constructability, and operability across various stages, including:
Concept, preliminary, or detailed design
SID, Risk, CHAZOP, HAZOP, and HACCP assessments
Verification and acceptance stages
Offer Expert Advice: Provide specialized advice on processes, technologies, and systems related to Operational Technology (OT), covering Historian, SCADA, PLC, Networking, Internet of Things (IoT), and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
Contribute Engineering Expertise: Participate in industry and research-based programs, facilitating the integration of relevant outcomes to reduce risks and increase efficiency within Seqwater architectures.
Develop Technical Solutions: Lead the creation of complex technical solutions and architecture standards that address stakeholder needs, using tools and principles from the Architecture team. Empower employees to contribute to management decisions and establish procedures.
Translate Requirements: Convert requirements into comprehensible language for solution providers, business teams, and technology teams across various domains (Application, IaaS, DevSecOps, Data, Cloud, Identity, or Security). This includes creating Solution Architecture diagrams, high-level architecture, implementable architecture, prototyping, mock-ups, and wireframes.
Technical and Engineering Input: Provide input into the development of programs of work, business cases, and project documentation. Ensure the correct application of technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices, including security, to enable informed decision-making by employees.
Peer Review and Judgment: Exercise independent judgment in reviewing designs to enhance Solution Architecture artifacts. Support employees in setting outcomes and managing time effectively to achieve desired results.
Consultancy Services: Perform Solution Architecture consultancy services within designated technology domains, ensuring high-quality outputs in terms of time, cost, and business benefit. Emphasize the importance of interpersonal skills and effective human resource management practices among employees.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Preferably registered as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or a Chartered Engineer.
- Advanced proficiency and specialized training in theoretical or applied SCADA, Historian, PLC software and hardware, communication network architectures, Internet of Things (IoT), with a proven ability to learn, apply, and support new technologies.
- Expertise in at least one of the following IT areas:
- Application development,
- DevSecOps,
- Cloud engineering,
- Integration,
- Data solutions.
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical design and installation practices, corporate technology frameworks, and relevant legislative, regulatory, and standards requirements for professional engineering services.
- Understanding of quality assurance systems and processes.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, managing, and supporting large-scale distributed control systems for geographically dispersed, multi-site facilities and process plants in water, wastewater, gas, or petrochemical industries.
- Experience in preparing control systems planning and design documentation, including architectures, standards, and specifications.
- Highly developed skills in drafting concise planning reports, technical reports, and scopes of work that meet user needs, legislative and regulatory requirements, and address potential risks and their consequences.
- Proven ability to assess user requirements and provide clear, concise, and accurate advice to individuals with varying levels of expertise.
- Demonstrated capability in reviewing and evaluating complex engineering and process drawings and specifications, analyzing complex problems, identifying critical issues, and developing appropriate solutions.
- Willingness to travel and work occasionally as needed.
