Bourke Street Bakery is looking for a passionate Sourdough Baker that is interested in delivering our Saturday Baking Master Classes.

We started as a little rustic corner bakery in 2004 on Bourke Street in Surry Hills. We have sort of grown up - now in our 20th year of baking and have many outlets throughout Sydney. We have always reached out to the Sydney Baking Community to share our knowledge via our weekly Saturday Baking Master Classes.

The Role 

  • To present and coach participants at our Saturday weekly Sourdough Master Classes
  • Prepare and set up the class for 10 – 12 participants each Saturday.
  • Deliver the class to Bourke Street Bakery within guidelines.
  • Have a very good knowledge and passion for sourdough baking processes. 
  • Championing with participants a good knowledge of how-to manager a starter, mixing shaping and baking at home.
  • Ensure all notes for participates are up to date and the information flow is correct.

What We're Looking for 

  • Demonstrated experience with Sourdough baking and starters.
  • Great shaping skills.
  • Great experience and understanding of scoring and oven baking.
  • Great communication skills and good speaking English.
  • Ability to structure time, read the room and adapt accordingly.
  • Patience with participants - they may have a very low knowledge of Sourdough Baking or extremely high knowledge and getting the balance right with both types of participant's in the one session is very important.
  • Great listener, great communicator.
  • Positive outlook and willing to go that extra mile for customers.
  • Humble and generous with your knowledge.

Structure 

  • 4 hours every Saturday - 8.30am to 12.30pm
  • We can set you up as a casual and or you can bill us via your ABN.
  • We would ask you have a back up plan for if you are sick or away on holidays to cover the Saturday class.
  • We run classes from Feb – October – Approx. 36 weeks minus some long weekends.

You love the world of bakery - and are meticulous about quality, always looking at ways to improve the way we share our knowledge.
