Southern Area Manager

DGH Engineering was established in 2005 and now services the construction, mining, sugar, defence force, ports, water and waste water treatment plants within the Bowen Basin and Queensland region.

DGH Engineering operate from a 4-hectare site located at Paget Mackay, comprising of a 3250 sqm workshop which houses our fabrication, machining, blasting and painting operations. This facility fully supports our onsite maintenance and shutdown teams. DGH Engineering also has a 3500 sqm site complete with a 500 sqm modern office and workshop based at Emerald in Central Queensland.

We are looking for a safety focused and motivated Southern Area Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Mackay based Operations Manager, you will manage personnel, processes and logistics to ensure goals are met. The successful applicant will be required to reside in the Emerald region. 

 Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:

• Build strong working relationships with existing and new customers
• Maintain and manage existing contracts
• Identify and engage new business opportunities
• Provide up to date reports to the senior management team
• Manage day to day operations of approx. 15 regular staff plus additional personnel required for regular mine site shutdowns 
• Experience and knowledge in Human Resource procedures and policies to work closely with the DGH HR Department to ensure labour requirement for projects and shutdowns are met
• Oversee and mentor both workshop and site Project Managers, Coordinators and Supervisors
• Safety management and WHS compliance for the Emerald workshop and sites we work at
• Meeting goals within customer and industry expectations
• Coordinating labour resources to meet workload requirements
• Ensuring quality assurance and workshop standards are met
• Ensuring targets are achieved

What you need:

• Engineering or mechanical trade background
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
• Accepting and implementing change to priorities at short notice
• Excellent people and communication skills
• Great understanding of OHS&E policies with a proven safety focus and leading by example 
• Be willing to lead by example and follow DGH Engineering’s Core Values
• Experience preferred in both workshop and site management positions
• Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
• Financial, business and commercial acumen
• Intermediate ability with MS Office suite of programs
• Experience in the mining industry is highly desirable
