About the position
New South Lawyers is seeking a Special Counsel in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution team. In this role, you will work closely with the firm's directors and other staff to provide legal advice and representation in matters related to litigation. You will be responsible for initiating these proceedings, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal standards.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and Strategise Complex Matters Autonomously
- Independently manage and oversee complex litigation matters from inception to resolution, ensuring exceptional outcomes.
- Develop and implement advanced case strategies with minimal to no supervision.
- Attend court proceedings and prepare for trials, hearings and ADR.
Lead and Support Junior Staff in Complex Litigation
- Lead and direct teams in managing litigation matters, providing strategic guidance and oversight to more junior staff.
- Take a primary role in preparing for and attending court proceedings, including instructing Counsel in Supreme Court Proceedings and undertaking ADR.ions.
Expert Legal Research and Analysis
- Conduct expert-level legal research on multifaceted issues, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of complex laws, regulations, and precedents.
- Analyse and interpret intricate legal documents, statutes, and case law to develop sophisticated and innovative case strategies.
Drafting and Reviewing Critical Legal Documents
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other critical legal documents with exceptional precision and attention to detail.
- Review and finalise crucial correspondence and documentation related to litigation matters, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and effectiveness.
Advanced Document Review and Management
- Supervise and coordinate document review and discovery processes, ensuring the identification and strategic organisation of critical information.
Client Relationship Management and Strategic Communication
- Act as the principal point of contact for major clients, providing strategic updates and discussing comprehensive case strategies.
- Collaborate with clients to obtain critical information and documentation, ensuring effective communication and exceptional relationship management.
Leadership and Cross-Functional Team Collaboration
- Lead and drive collaborative efforts with colleagues across different practice groups to deliver superior legal support.
- Facilitate and lead team meetings, driving complex case discussions and strategic planning sessions.
Mentorship and Development of Legal Talent
- Mentor and develop more junior lawyers and support staff, providing high-level guidance and fostering professional growth.
- Share advanced expertise and insights to enhance the overall capabilities and performance of the litigation team.
