About the Role

Reporting to Superintendent Environment Approvals (Central), this role provides effective and efficient environmental support to the Environmental Approvals Team by helping to coordinate and drive the delivery of environmental approvals under the EP Act, EPBC Act and Mining Act to enable growth of the Iron Ore business.

The role requires you to work closely with internal stakeholders to determine approval requirements and to ensure the timely submission and high quality of regulatory submissions. The work also requires working closely with Traditional Owners in the field to assist and participate in Social Surroundings consultation to understand and capture the impacts on social, cultural, aesthetic and economic values - being Social Surroundings as defined in the EP Act.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating social surroundings engagements and other meetings with Traditional Owner groups.

  • Supervise and support participants during field engagements

  • Report preparation and reviews

  • Engage with and provide advice to key internal and external stakeholders

  • Undertake other work as required to support the delivery of environmental approvals

About You

To be successful in this role, you have the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, biological, archaeological, ethnographic or other relevant field.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills

  • Demonstrated experience in working with Traditional Owners preferably in the Pilbara region of WA, in social surroundings or ethnographic consultations.

  • A good understanding of relevant state and federal environmental and heritage legislation, policies and guidance

  • Availability to travel to the Pilbara on an as needs basis

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and use of various software packages including GIS

  • Experience in contractor management systems (preferred)

  • Sound knowledge of Pilbara fauna and flora (preferred)

Location

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - 'City Square'. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities. Access to end of trip facilities including bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues. You will work across WAIOs operations in the Pilbara working closely with Traditional Owner organisations in the areas we operate and in the unique environments of the Pilbara IBRA
