About the Role

Reporting to the HSE Superintendent, the Hygiene Specialist will provide input into the management of occupational hygiene at Nickel West operational sites. This is an exciting role supporting surface and underground mining, and processing operations. The position is primarily offered FIFO from Perth on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster but candidates who prefer a family friendly roster residing in Kalgoorlie will also be considered. Flexible work options are available to the right candidate.  

In this role, you will be required to:

  • Complete the duties of Mine Air Quality Officer and Noise Officer as per WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 and maintain the site’s Hygiene Management Plans.
  • Identify and assess occupational hygiene hazards and provide advice on suitable control strategies.
  • Conduct exceedance investigations and report them to Registered Managers and to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, via Safety Regulation System (SRS).
  • Oversee the Respiratory Protection Fit Testing and Hearing Protection Fit Testing programs as well as other health surveillance requirements.
  • Manage hygiene monitoring programs. Approve samples and complete QA/QC checks.
  • Conduct qualitative exposure assessments, health risk assessments and control assessment tasks.
  • Develop and implement sites Health Management Plan (HMP) and sampling plans.

About You

To be successful in the Hygiene Specialist role you will have a genuine desire to help people achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes; combined with a clear understanding of the role that the resources sector plays in health, hygiene and wellbeing management of our most important asset – our people.  You will have:
 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Hygiene or similar / related field
  • A provisional or higher member of AIOH (Essential)
  • Previous experience with Cority (or Medgate) and Safety Regulation System 
  • Strong understanding of the occupational health and hygiene risks associated with smelting/ processing plants and experience in a similar industry will be highly regarded. 
  • DEMIRS  Registered Sampler, Ventilation Technician / Officer and approved Noise Officer. 
  • Understanding in health surveillance including lung function and audiometric testing .
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

 Location Nickel West is one of the most sustainable nickel producers in the world and the world's leading nickel supplier to the battery metals market and part of our Minerals Australia business. Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business operating in various locations across Western Australia. All nickel operations (open-cut and underground mines, concentrators, a smelter and refinery) are located in Western Australia.
