Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business. Our culture is rich with technical know-how, highly efficient and focused on innovation. The business employs over 2500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. We also have plans to expand our operations with new mines in the northern Goldfields and a large nickel sulphate plant in Kwinana.

About the Role
Nickel West have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join their business with the role being based in Perth, with occasional site travel. This role is open to flexible work arrangements or part time opportunities for the right candidates.
Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Stewardship, you will provide technical expertise to the business through the execution of Mechanical Engineering activities while accounting for uncertainty and risk.
In this role you will:
- Providing technical expertise to a broad range of stakeholders including the Reliability, Asset Integrity, Production and Maintenance teams in both planned and breakdown environments.
- Ensuring conformance with the company's charter, code of conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
- Have an understanding of key legal safety in design, hazards and effective control in mining and processing plant.
- Provide engineering due diligence to projects, responding to technical enquires, providing assessments and repair scopes and providing quality assurance.
- Continuously improve standards, creating new standards when required and ensure implementation across the business.
- Focus on delivering value, through application of your strong decision-making and collaboration skills.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have highly developed written and verbal communication skills and be able to deal with stakeholders at all business levels.
We have a strong focus on finding candidates with the right attitude as well as skillset and support flexible working arrangements.
In addition, we will be looking for candidates with the following skills:
- An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment and the community
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering with Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation or as a member of Engineers Australia
- Experience in engineering design, specifications and technical report writing.
- Technical knowledge on minerals processing equipment such as crushers, screens, conveyors, pumps and process piping
- Demonstrate the ability to develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Experience leveraging engineering consultants to deliver positive results in safety, quality assurance/control, culture and productivity
- Exposure to and understanding of Registrable Plant preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions
