About the Role

The Specialist Industrial Networks (LTE & WTS) will be responsible for managing and maintaining Industrial Wireless Networks according to the system designed operating standards and work management/service management processes to deliver a premium level of support and oversees the management of the work, ensuring safe systems of work as well as execute planned logical maintenance while minimising any impacts to business continuity.

Reporting to the Superintendent Industrial Network this role allows you to work with other technology teams and mine sites to identify opportunities for network optimisation and to take initiative to implement solutions, ensuring adherence to BHP's safety policies, and in accordance with architectural and engineering standards.   Core accountabilities for the role include:

  • Ensure proper design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of Industrial Communication Network portfolio devices and services including Wireless data networks, 802.11x APs, WLCs and network security.
  • Investigate the cause and design a resolution for requests out of Service Management processes.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve system improvement and optimisation opportunities for operational networks.
  • Drive for continuous improvement by optimising and automating processes where applicable.
  • Engage with Technology Engineering & Governance, and other technical teams to discuss requirements, for operations and implementation of network solutions.
  • Engage with Site Resources to ensure the customers’ needs are being met
  • Provide expert input to assist with resolving critical incidents and problems within the Industrial Network

About You

  • Strong background Industrial Networks and ideally, experience with supporting industrial automation and network security. 
  • Experience in designing and/or managing large, complex and secure OT Industrial networks in large organisations (preferably mining and/or oil & gas or telecommunication)
  • Strong understanding of network technologies, protocols, and industry trends, including SD-WAN, TCP/IP, BGP, VPN, IPSec, Routing, Switching, traditional WAN technologies, Industrial Wifi and how to apply them at scale
  • Tertiary qualification or Professional Qualification equivalent (Engineering bachelor’s degree or higher) in Electronics and Communications or Telecommunications 
  • Troubleshooting, logging, and monitoring tools including DNA-Centre, SolarWinds and Splunk is beneficial
  • ITIL v3 experience, DevOps Experience is beneficial
  • Experience with network security technologies is beneficial
  • Experience working within a matrix organization environment will be beneficial as will exposure to heavy industry such as mining, manufacturing, utilities etc.
