Job description

We are seeking a passionate and client focused Speech Pathologist who has a keen interest and experience within pediatric speech pathology. The role is a part time role (up to .5FTE) to work within our current Allied Health team.

The Position

The SWAMS Speech Pathologist, Community Services, provides a quality speech pathology service to Aboriginal people in the South West and Bindjareb (Mandurah) regions that is culturally appropriate, secure and respectful.

As part of a multidisciplinary team you will undertake assessments and coordination of speech pathology with SWAMS Community Service clients, including those on NDIS and Aged Care programs as well as those SWAMS clinical clients requiring support.

You will contribute to the development of Speech pathology, promoting positive speech outcomes and communication techniques for children and adults, and will act as a resource, providing consultancy and education across programs.

Specific requirements of this position include but are not limited to;

  • Establishing meaningful relationships and provide culturally sensitive responsive assessments and interventions for clients with a varied range of clinical needs
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams of health professionals including General Practitioners, Care Co-ordinators, Aboriginal Health Workers, and Allied Health Professionals.
  • Liaise with service providers and community agencies to ensure seamless continuum of care across settings that meets the needs of clients and carers
  • Take a role in continuous quality improvements in the delivery of client services.
  • Participate in research activities within the services as required.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Speech Pathology and eligible for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Ability to travel throughout the South West region
  • Experience in providing accurate and relevant Speech Pathology services including assessment, treatment and case management

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of the inter-generational impacts of the Stolen Generation policies
  • An understanding of the unique issues affecting and impacting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal clients in a culturally appropriate manner

Remuneration and conditions

SWAMS offers a competitive salary will be dependent on your qualifications and experience along with a generous salary packaging opportunity of up to $15,900 and an annual corporate wardrobe allowance.
