About the Role

Reporting to the Supervisor: Diverse Learning, the position of Speech PathologistDiverse Learning provides a range of high-level professional advice, assistance, operational support and professional learning to schools. This role is focused on developing the capacity of teachers and school leaders to better understand and actively respond to the learning needs of students with disability within mainstream classrooms.

This is a unique opportunity to work within the education sector amongst a team of dedicated professionals supporting K-12 students with Diverse Learning needs across our network of 147 schools.

The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for:

  • providing active leadership to the implementation of Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for school students with disability (NCCD) processes at school and system levels
  • demonstrating a strategic outlook, understanding educational trends and remaining abreast of emerging research in the area of disability 
  • utilising evidence-based practice within the role, delivering remote and in situ tailored professional learning to school and system personnel
  • reviewing and advising on appropriate adjustments related to curriculum, sensory, mobility, safety and personal care for students with disability.
  • strengthening teachers’ and Diverse Learning team members’ capacity to effectively integrate the use of assistive technologies, including AAC
  • using high-level interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to effectively and collaboratively develop learning adjustments and interventions
  • building and maintaining teacher knowledge around the ongoing use of assessments and sustainable adjustments and/or interventions that support student learning needs
  • using appropriate strategies such as coaching, mentoring and facilitating to build teacher capacity
  • engaging staff and team members in data analysis to monitor and inform student learning
  • thinking and planning strategically with the ability to initiate, implement and evaluate change
  • building professional partnership networks with industry and academics to enhance learning opportunities for students.

About You

We are seeking a caring, professional candidate with the following experience, skills and knowledge:

  • graduate qualifications in either Speech Pathology, Inclusive Education or like discipline
  • membership of relevant professional association eg Speech Pathology Australia or NSW Education Standards Authority validating practice at a proficiency standards level
  • five years or more Speech Pathology or teaching experience with students who have a range of disability (including sensory impairment) and learning difficulties
  • evidence of successfully achieving innovative and sustainable changes in work practices within an organisation
  • ability to identify and interpret appropriate data
  • ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
  • capacity to select and support appropriate school improvement interventions based on data analysis
  • strong time management skills demonstrated through self-direction and oversight of a range of work tasks such as multiple quality improvement projects, periods of increased workload, consultation surrounding individual students and delivery of professional development sessions
  • capacity to receive and integrate developmental feedback from line Supervisor/Manager
  • a current driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • post-graduate qualifications in Speech Pathology, Education/Inclusive Education or Allied Health 
  • experience within a school-based environment is an advantage.
