ABOUT THE ROLE:

With the recent local and world markets shift toward zero emission vehicles and benefitting from Volgren’s strong focus on the design and development of innovative new bus solutions, we are looking to increase our workforce at this exciting time with talented individuals contributing to the overall success of our company. 

Our focus is to provide a safe working environment with multiple opportunities for passionate and enthusiastic people who want to improve and hone their skills whilst learning about the manufacture of the transport of future - Electric Vehicles. 

We are looking to fill multiple Spray Painter/Panel Beater roles within our Malaga facility. In this hands-on position, you will have a strong drive and motivation to succeed and be able to work in a safety conscious environment. Preparation and paint brand new, refurbished buses, parts, modules, trolleys, and etc. Must be trade qualified Automotive Spray Painter / Refinisher.

Positions enjoy working a 9-day fortnight. Pay rate is market competitive and depends on experience and qualifications. This will be a permanent full time opportunity and paid as per our Enterprise Agreement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare parts and surfaces for painting or coating by removing dirt, rust, and any loose/old paint
  • Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles for accurate paint flow and thickness
  • Properly mask areas which are not being painted and remove tape at the completion of the job
  • Apply rust proof undercoats and primers using a spray gun
  • Sand and clean surfaces between coats where required
  • Identify and touch up any defective areas
  • Keep track of paint stock inventory and liaise with appropriate person 
  • Safe use of spray paint tools and equipment such as spray guns, paint shakers, pressure pots etc
  • Compliance with WHS policies and procedures
  • Able to paint B.C metalics and 2K paints
  • Sanding surfaces by hand and with power sanders
  • Colour matching and mixing paints to match paint shades, and selecting pre-mixed paint
  • Applying primer and finishing coats using spray-guns, and sanding surfaces between coats
  • Touching up paintwork and applying polish to vehicles
  • Removing masking papers, and waxing and polishing finished paintwork
  • Removing damaged panels and parts, and removing upholstery and accessories to gain access
  • Removing dents by hammering panels
  • Replacing badly damaged sections with new or second-hand panels
  • Spray-paint vehicles

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Qualified in Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology (AUR32420) or equivalent. 
  • Knowledge of 2K paint is a must.
  • Must be punctual, reliable and available for work Monday to Friday
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A great attitude to work and helping others.
  • Manufacturing or related industry experience is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, time management skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaborate with teams
  • Strong attention to detail, motivated, punctual, and prompt to act on support request
