About the role:
Our school offers around 110 students with disabilities and special care needs a quality education, in a safe and secure environment. Education plans are tailored for each individual students personal and educational requirements. Our students range in age from 5 to 17 with varying degrees of physical and intellectual disabilities forge a new future at Errington Special Education Centre. We have multiple classes in each sub-school, each class averaging 8 students with one teacher who is supported by at least one Student Support Officer (SSO). Classes are structured to ensure each student receives the high level of support and care they need.
Errington Special Education Centre for decades was renowned for its care and education programme for special needs children, known as Ashford Special School on Anzac Highway.
The School Curriculum SSO is accountable to the principal for assisting in the conduct of effective and appropriate SPECIAL EDUCATION programs by providing SPECIAL EDUCATION para-professional support to students which contributes to the achievement of positive educational outcomes of students with an intellectual and associated disability and known challenging behaviours. Challenging behaviours may relate to complex communication, social and emotional needs, trauma and / or Autism. This position will include working with 1:1 or 2:1 RAAP funded students and assisting with personal / health care needs, including administering medication.
You will have high level interpersonal skills with sound knowledge and understanding of students with special and diverse needs. You are student focussed, adaptable and demonstrate a personal commitment to working with and supporting young people on their journey through their schooling years.
There is a requirement for exercising initiative, confidentiality, discretion, and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes in respect to the curriculum and programmes we deliver.

What you will do:
- Contribute to providing improved learning and educational opportunities for students with special and complex needs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of effective curriculum programs for students with special and complex needs by participating in and contributing to the planning and evaluating of program modules and associated activities.
- Assist teaching staff in the conduct of effective and appropriate curriculum programs to students with special and complex needs by providing specialist para-professional support and assistance.
