About us:
The Hunter New England Health Care Interpreter Service provides professional interpreters to facilitate communication between health professionals and clients who are deaf or who have limited English.
Healthcare interpreters are trained professionals who abide by the AUSIT Code of Ethics for Interpreters. They provide skilled and accurate interpretation for medical consultations and procedures, and maintain privacy, confidentiality and impartiality.
Healthcare interpreters will assist with sight translation of patient information handouts and with cultural information on health concepts and care expectations, upon request.
The successful candidate will work amongst a collaborative diverse team of various language interpreters, a dynamic booking office and other units within the Multicultural and Refugee Health Service. You will be based at Wallsend with a requirement for local travel up to the Central Coast. A hybrid work arrangement will be considered.
About the role:
The Staff Interpreter role is a fulltime role within the Multicultural and Refugee Health Service. The role requires the successful candidate to be able to transmit information accurately and with confidentiality for the best outcome for patients and medical professionals.
We are seeking a fluent Interpreter speaking Mandarin to support our clinicians throughout the Hunter Region, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, Far North Coast and Western NSW Local Health Districts. The successful candidate will be able to speak English and Chinese Mandarin. Additional fluency in Chinese Cantonese is an added advantage.
The Staff Interpreter role will require the successful candidate to manage their workload and be able to interpret via telephone, video conferencing and face-to-face as requested.
Extensive training in interpreting in the medical setting will be provided to the successful candidate.
