An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Gerontology) to join the team at the Townsville University Hospital . This is a Fixed term temporary part-time position from 05/02/2024-12/01/2025, 60 hours per fortnight.
About your opportunity:

  • The role of the Staff Specialist is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients / clients of the THHS. This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
  • The Gerontology Department currently provides a range of services that includes Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE), Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), Orthogeriatric Liaison, Community Geriatrics and a range of Specialist Outpatient Clinics.
  • With increasing number of inpatients as well as the plan to set up a BPSD unit, the successful applicant will lead an Acute Care of Elderly team to provide regular consultant-led ward rounds, lead MDT meetings and assist in developing a BPSD unit. The successful candidate will also be on-call and do weekend ward rounds on a rotational basis.
  • Provide clinical specialist Geriatric Medicine support to the Aged Care service, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.
Generous pro rata remuneration package (based on full-time equivalent value) up to $21,575 p.m comprising:
  • Salary range of $97.84 to $124.05 p.h.(L18-L27)
  • 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
  • Employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%)
  • Attraction and retention incentive allowance
  • Regional and rural attraction allowance
  • Motor vehicle allowance + Professional development assistance (allowances and leave), and other allowances.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
  • Providing expert consultation and advice directly to patients, as well as within the organisation as required.
  • Actively taking part in quality improvement, risk management, peer review and audit and to demonstrate positive change as a result. Demonstrating understanding and commitment to the principles of hospital accreditation.
  • Advocate for patients and fostering pleasant interactions with both patients and carers.
Other requirements
  • Specialist Registration You will hold Geriatric Medicine specialist registration or be eligible to hold) with AHPRA. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
  • Specialist Travel this position may require the incumbent to work at other facilities within the THHS.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties.
  • Specialist Aged Care Pre-Employment ScreeningPotential applicants are advised that the Aged Care Act 1997 requires Queensland Health aged care service key personnel to have: a current National Police Certificate; a search of bankruptcy records; and referee checks from previous employment. Queensland Health will facilitate the applicants obtaining the above checks..
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
