An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Gerontology) to join the team at the Townsville University Hospital . This is a Fixed term temporary part-time position from 05/02/2024-12/01/2025, 60 hours per fortnight.
About your opportunity:
- The role of the Staff Specialist is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients / clients of the THHS. This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
- The Gerontology Department currently provides a range of services that includes Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE), Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), Orthogeriatric Liaison, Community Geriatrics and a range of Specialist Outpatient Clinics.
- With increasing number of inpatients as well as the plan to set up a BPSD unit, the successful applicant will lead an Acute Care of Elderly team to provide regular consultant-led ward rounds, lead MDT meetings and assist in developing a BPSD unit. The successful candidate will also be on-call and do weekend ward rounds on a rotational basis.
- Provide clinical specialist Geriatric Medicine support to the Aged Care service, making a substantial contribution to the development of a culture of medical education and safe, effective patient centered clinical practice.
- Salary range of $97.84 to $124.05 p.h.(L18-L27)
- 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading

- Advocate for patients and fostering pleasant interactions with both patients and carers.
- Specialist Registration You will hold Geriatric Medicine specialist registration or be eligible to hold) with AHPRA. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
- Specialist Travel this position may require the incumbent to work at other facilities within the THHS.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties.
