About The Job

  • This is an excellent opportunity to join a networked Emergency Medicine service whilst working for the largest local health district in New South Wales which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid-North Coast areas. You will join experienced consultants in providing quality, holistic and best-practice Emergency Medicine services to inpatients and outpatients of HNELHD.

Requirements

  • Be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Emergency Physician and/or overseas-trained specialist pathways.
  • Have demonstrated recent and comprehensive experience in Emergency Medicine.
  • Provide and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice.

Newcastle

  • Opportunity to work at a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital - serving a population of 900,000+ across the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid North Coast areas.
  • John Hunter Hospital is the largest hospital in Hunter New England Local Health District with approximately 650 beds and growing and we have strong, innovative connections with Hunter Medical Research Institute and University of Newcastle.
  • John Hunter Hospital contains the only trauma centre in New South Wales outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area, and has the busiest emergency department in the state. We provide primary and tertiary trauma services to the people of the Hunter Valley and tertiary trauma services to the people of the Central Coast, New England, and Mid North Coast regions of New South Wales.
  • With support from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and NSW Ambulance, the hospital provides a retrieval service for critically ill patients from the Hunter and North Coast.

Maitland

  • Maitland Hospital Emergency Department provides excellent opportunities to be actively involved in development of policies, models of care and clinical packages as well as education and support for ACEM trainees, nurse practitioners, GP/ruralist trainees and pre-vocational medical officers
  • Maitland ED is a busy non-major Referral, Tier 2 site for ACEM training that sees 55,000 presentations per annum with an 18% admission rate and 24% of all presentations are pediatric.  It services a growing community and provides additional support to many of the smaller rural and remote sites in the Hunter Valley as a referral site and through the use of telehealth.
