The Storage and Data Protection crew ensure the pre-emptive security and safe recovery of our Group data systems and platforms.

As custodians of the data storage security and recoverability, they collaborate with platform engineering squads and partners, to enhance system reliability, performance, and scalability, through the implementation of DevOps & SRE practices.

With on-prem data centres and Public Cloud partnerships, our Storage and Data Protection Crew are responsible for the secure delivery and operation of our Storage and Data Protection services.

Your Role

The Staff Systems Engineer, Data Protection, you will influence, engineer, design, build and run world class products and services. You will be senior contributor within the Storage and Data Protection crew responsible for the safe, sound and secure delivery and operation of Storage and Data Protection services hosted within our on-premises data centres and in Public Cloud.

To achieve this, you may expect to;

• Provide strategic guidance on data storage initiatives and solutions.
• Identify, gain support for, and drive best practices and industry standards across disaster recovery and pre-emptive data security.
• Collaborate with security teams to integrate security best practices into the CI/CD pipelines, platform, and applications.
• Design, implement, and maintain automation software to continuous integrate, deploy, monitor, and respond to incidents, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
• Develop and implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using differing tools and software, ensuring consistent and reproducible infrastructure deployments.
• Implement monitoring and logging solutions to proactively identify and address potential issues, optimizing platform performance and reliability.
• Lead efforts to establish and improve monitoring and alerting systems, utilizing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, to identify and address platform performance issues proactively.

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;

• Enterprise Storage management, Block , File and Object.
• Storage Area Network (SAN) management.
• Data Backup management, MongoDB, Database development, Windows, Linux.
• AWS foundation services (EC2, Lambda, Cloudformation, System Manager, RDS).
• Automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform.
• Source control, and CI/CD tooling such as TeamCity, GitHub, GitHub actions and Jenkins.
• Infrastructure as code pipelines and automation.
• Observability with Grafana and Prometheus.
