About the Role:

We are seeking passionate and experienced Literacy Coaches with specialized knowledge in teaching students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. These roles are based within the Literacy Guarantee Unit and carry a state-wide responsibility. Our Literacy Coaches will work collaboratively with school leadership teams and classroom teachers across various schools to implement effective methodologies that cater to the needs of students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement effective teacher coaching models with classroom teachers, providing explicit advice and direct feedback to ensure improved teaching practices are well understood and adopted.
  • Provide support and work alongside teachers in the classroom to model up-to-date evidence-based approaches for teaching students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
  • Support teachers by demonstrating highly effective, explicit teaching of synthetic phonics.
  • Use a range of formative assessments and diagnostic data to inform intervention processes for students experiencing dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
  • Develop and deliver statewide intensive courses for primary years teachers on teaching students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, and on explicit teaching of phonics.
  • Develop and publish new resources and materials about evidence-based practices for teaching students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist school leaders to implement collaborative learning processes at the whole school level to ensure that professional knowledge and skills related to the teaching of students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties become systemic.
  • Support Year 1 teachers in analysing and responding to Phonics Screening Check data and planning differentiated intervention strategies for students based on the Phonics Screen Check results.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be either currently registered or able to be registered to teach in South Australia. If not permanent with the Education Department, applicants must meet the department’s minimum employment requirements before taking up an appointment.

Minimum departmental employment requirements for teachers include recognised teaching qualifications and registration as a teacher in South Australia and, in addition, for all applicants who are not permanent with the department will include an active on-line application in the Employable Teacher Register (ETR), a cleared Education Department Employment Declaration, Australian residency or current work permit, Reporting Abuse and Neglect training (previously known as Mandatory Notification), and an approved First Aid Certificate.

Special Conditions:

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration:

STL3: $143,545 per annum (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation.
