Strategic Sourcing Specialist - Capex

About the role

Join our team as a Strategic Sourcing Specialist - Capex in a regional role at Nyrstar. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in supporting the Category Lead and broader procurement team. Your primary responsibility will be delivering Capital procurement services to Project Managers and stakeholders across the business. From procurement planning and risk evaluation, purchase requisition compliance and conversion, to executing Source to Contract activities, your expertise in project management, data mining, and contract negotiation will contribute to the success of Nyrstar. Located in Adelaide or Hobart, this is a fulltime role with relocation assistance provided.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing procurement plans and strategies aligned with organisational goals.
  • Proactively engaging with the business for early involvement in contract planning, identifying risks, evaluating supply partners, and formulating effective contracting strategies.
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders in the development of clear, concise scopes of work
  • Executing Source to Contract activities for goods, services, and equipment, including tenders and negotiations.
  • Facilitating clear communication between suppliers and the organisation to ensure that all parties understand the terms and conditions of procurement contracts.
  • Developing precise commercial documentation, including negotiation of contract clauses, statements of work and purchase orders.
  • Managing contractor and internal stakeholder relationships for efficient procurement fulfillment.
  • Reviewing purchase requisitions for compliance and converting to purchase orders
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance of contract documents in SAP DMS and timely conversion of purchase requisitions.
  • Implementing strategies to reduce costs, optimize processes, and strengthen relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Reporting on procurement performance metrics, including spend analysis, cost avoidance, cost savings etc.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Tertiary qualification in Procurement, Business, Commerce, Law, or a related discipline (Desirable).
  • Over 4 years of experience in Procurement/Supply-Chain, with a focus on capital and projects, preferably within mining, metals, heavy, or manufacturing industries.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite & SAP.
  • Business, contractual, and financial literacy, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Results-oriented mindset, showcasing strong commercial acumen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a robust customer service focus.
  • Experience in managing and conducting supplier negotiations to maximize price and value.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills; project management exposure or qualification is desired but not essential.
  • Flexible approach to work, comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated competencies in category management, including market intelligence analysis, contract administration, and negotiation planning and execution.
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law.
