ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for an active, resilient and practical Student Wellbeing Coordinator who has a passion for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in a diverse and challenging environment.

AFL Cape York House for Boys has a full-time position available, on a Fixed Term Contract commencing in June 2024, for a Student Wellbeing Coordinator to:

  • Provide quality pastoral, health and wellbeing support and services for AFL Cape York House students.
  • Contribute to establishing policies and procedures to ensure that all students maximise their learning through quality pastoral care approaches, programs and education including the necessary support and initiatives to enable each student to develop a sense of identity and personal worth and to contribute to the overall good of the AFL Cape York House, schools and broader community.

The successful applicant will work alongside the Boarding Manager, Transition Support Teacher, Student Support Officer, Residential Boarding staff and external services to support a range of quality health and wellbeing and life experiences, which are designed to prepare students for the challenges of the future.

CORE COMPETENCIES

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

High level time management and organisational skills, particularly in relation to managing multiple priorities, tasks and adhering to strict deadlines.

Cultural competence; proven skills, knowledge and behaviours that are required to plan, support, improve and deliver services in a culturally respectful and appropriate manner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the barriers that young people face when disengaging or have disengaged from school.

Experience in case management, utilising reporting tools and establishing networks with student/youth/health support services.

High level written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with young people.

High level computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications with a youth focus, eg. psychology, counsellor, social worker
  • Positive Working with Children Blue Card (or eligible to apply for)
  • First Aid Certificate (including CPR)
  • LR class driver’s licence
  • National Police Clearance
