Commencement: Immediate start or by June 2024 Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 full-time.

The Sunset School coordinator role is a full-time position which attracts substantial salary packaging benefits - relocation assistance will be provided where applicable.

About the Role

Yipirinya School has been offering a Sunset School since 2022. Our Sunset School is a creative, new initiative which operates outside of school hours, engaging our community through inclusive, culturally responsive programs. The Sunset School Coordinator will oversee the Sunset School, and lead the planning and programming of activities that build on school learning, link with partner organisations, and support engagement in community events. You will lead a specialised team that will deliver four engagement initiatives: develop and learn, make and create, play and explore and write and speak.

School Context

Yipirinya School is an independent Indigenous community school in Alice Springs controlled by an Indigenous Council and catering for Indigenous students from the nearby community and outstations. We are the true school of Alice Springs. The school has excellent resources and support facilities for all staff. The school offers a two-way learning approach (bi-lingual & bi-cultural) to education and we are the only school in Australia that offers learning in four Aboriginal languages. Building relationships and community engagement are significant improvement priorities at our school.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrated experience in the development, promotion, delivery and review of youth engagement and/or learning programs.

Foster fun relationships with children and their families that connect and inspire young people and their families, some of which, may have been disengaged in their community.

Enthusiastic and engaging approach to relationship building.

Lead a team to assist with the delivery of your program, and to actively supervise youth and adults in our care to ensure their safety & wellbeing.

Demonstrated ability to lead a team, with proven time management and organisational skills.

Represent our Yipirinya school community and be an ambassador for our brand.

Demonstrated commitment to continuous self-improvement as well as a positive approach to change, flexibility and adaptability in the work environment.

Availability to work after school hours and on weekends and/or support a team to deliver programs in these hours.

 Essential Criteria

●  Bachelor degree in a relevant profession

●  Current working with children check and police clearance or ability to obtain

●  Extensive experience working in the youth work/social work/inclusion field, in particular

understanding systems, policies and programs in the Alice Springs setting

●  Knowledge of evidence-based and contemporary approaches to holistic inclusive education such as trauma informed practice

●  Experience leading, designing, and implementing youth programs

●  Experience leading teams, developing people and managing under-performance

●  Experience managing budgets

●  Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

●  Experience developing relationships with children, families and wider communities

●  Desire to learn about local culture and languages

Desirable Criteria

●  Higher degree or training in related field

●  Speaker of one or more of Yipirinya’s four primary Aboriginal languages

●  Experience advocating, influencing and negotiating within community, government and political contexts
