Job description

Seeking a highly competent individual to join our busy team of Health Professionals. You will demonstrate a strong work ethic, professionalism and a commitment to quality ensuring that all laboratory practices comply with Pathology Queensland requirements in providing a cost effective, quality diagnostic and efficient client focussed pathology service to the Gold Coast University Hospital and Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services.

You will also scientifically oversee microbiology testing undertaken at Robina Hospital Laboratory as part of the Pathology Queensland Gold Coast Group. 

As you lead, support and motivate a team of professionals to meet and exceed organisational objectives you will be available to provide guidance, aswer questions and address concerns.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Advanced knowledge, experience and skill in Microbiology clinical laboratory techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability toapply advanced level scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results, assay validation and introduction of new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services of a complex nature to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standardsand established principles / procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on a broad range of issues pertaining to service delivery and improvement opportunities for Pathology Queensland.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop direct reports to meet their personal and professional objectives.
  • Demonstrated well developed level of knowledge, expertise and skill in the management of human, financial and physical resources of a medium sized team within the laboratory in line with the strategic direction of Pathology Queensland.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • A relevant qualification in management would be highly regarded.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in diagnostic microbiology is considered mandatory.

  • This position may be required to be on call, both for on-site and remote support for the laboratory. This position may also be required to participate in all shifts across a 24/7/365 period at times.
