About the opportunity

Applications are invited for eligible medical officers to join our team to complete their PGY3+ clinical Year at Mercy Health (Werribee Campus).

These are twelve (12) month positions commencing on 3rd February 2025. The year is broken into four (4) terms of roughly equal duration, with a reliever term at which time you will be allocated your annual leave allocation for the year (based on preferences).

Mercy Health has a number of HMO3 or above (PGY3+) Surgical positions suitable for those applicants who have obtained their General Registration with AHPRA.

Mercy Health offer a supported environment where Senior Medical Staff make an effort to know you personally and our HMO education program comprises weekly education session, incorporating simulation workshops and case-based education sessions.

Mercy Health offers the following rotations as a Hospital Medical Officer (PGY3+) - Surgical.

  • General/Specialty Surgery (including nights) (Sub-Specialties available are; Colorectal, Vascular, Breast, ENT, Endocrine, Upper GI & Urology)
  • Orthopaedics
  • Emergency Medicine


Please note: all HMOs will be assigned a relieving rotation during the year. Every effort will be made to provide rotations of your choice - taking into consideration such things as current training requirements, previous experience and demands of particular rotations. However this is not a guarantee as this is dependent on the group of successful applicants and the final rotation selection.

Applications must be made directly to Mercy Health.

The eligibility standards to apply are in line with the HMO program and are for any individual that falls in the categories below; provided they are eligible for General Medical Registration in Australia:

  • Australian Trained (Permanent Resident) Graduate of a Victorian Medical Faculty
  • Australian Trained (Permanent Resident) Graduate of an Interstate Medical Faculty
  • Temporary Resident Medical Graduate of a Victorian Medical Faculty
  • Temporary Resident Medical Graduate of an Interstate Medical Faculty
  • Australian Medical Council Graduate (who has obtained Permanent Residency and is completing the requirements for (or currently holds) General Medical Registration in Australia)
  • New Zealand Medical Graduates (Permanent Resident or International full-fee student)
  • International Medical Graduate (Australian Permanent Resident) who will complete 12 months of workplace based assessment at an Australian hospital (Competent Authority Pathway)

  • Hold general registration as a medical practitioner by commencement of 2025 Clinical Year
