The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator is a dedicated position funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust to June 2028. The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator is a designated central contact point for farmers, landholders, industry, and community groups and will support Sustainable Agriculture practices in Southern Queensland. The role forms part of a national network of Sustainable Agriculture Facilitators.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engage and inform farmers, landholders, community groups, and agriculture industries within the southern Queensland region about climate-smart, Sustainable Agriculture practices, including:
- best practice natural resource management,
- biodiversity and carbon markets,
- practices that support emissions reduction on-farm
- Facilitate partnerships and connections that will assist farmers, landholders, community groups and agriculture industries to work together to achieve Sustainable Agriculture outcomes.
- Support work programs for the delivery of Sustainable Agriculture projects under the general supervision of Projects Leads and working with Project Officers and contractors, in line with project requirements and resources.
- Participating in program development and planning with the Professional Services Team.
- Ensuring programs are implemented in accordance with approved plans and are executed in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Anticipating, responding to, and mitigating risks to successful program/project delivery, and supporting the development of operational risk registers.
- Managing project level budget for the program of work.
- Provide guidance and maintain quality assurance in project processes and on-ground operations.
- Desirable tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management, agricultural science or other relevant field, or a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience sufficient to perform the role.
- Working knowledge, skills, and experience in land management, sustainable agricultural production and natural resource issues relevant to the southern Queensland region or an ability to develop this skill within a reasonable timeframe.
- Demonstrated good to strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with influence, to a diverse client base including landholders, industry groups, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated skills in working with landholders, industry, contractors and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives, including the effective delivery of engagement events, or an ability to develop this skill within a reasonable timeframe.
- Proven track record of displaying a growth mindset in previous roles, with examples of facing challenges, embracing learning opportunities, and continuous improvement.
- Aptitude for data collection and reporting to demonstrate outcomes delivered.
- Demonstrated aptitude in operating a computer and using the Microsoft 365 suite and project management systems to deliver and report on work outcomes.
- Strong attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy and timeliness.
- An ability to proactively manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with team members across the organisation to achieve positive business outcomes.
