Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region.
The Tanami Expansion 2 project aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040; investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. The successful exploration of the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation for further development of the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

The Opportunity
You will be responsible for the integrity of Tanami’s Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and oversee the design, construction, operation and monitoring of the TSFs including serving as the Deputy Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer.
The role assists in the management of the tailings production requirements and strategies for paste backfill to fulfil medium and long term mine plans.
You will also assist with the water management of tailings and water systems and associated processing water systems, to achieve conformance with water stewardship commitments.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or similar
- Post graduate experience in the industry
- Experience in a similar technical role
- Experience, knowledge and competencies appropriate to the complexity of the TSF and associated risks
- Problem solver with excellent communication and team based skills
- Advanced PC skills and computer literacy with knowledge of financial and administrative processes
