Position Information

Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus is a coeducational high school in the township of Port Macquarie. The campus is one of two 7-12 campuses that form the College, and one of 8 schools that form a collaborative and dynamic community of Hastings Valley Public Schools (HVPS). The enrolment of 620 students includes 119 students with a rich and proud Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. Established on a large site, the campus includes 8 supported learning classes and has a broad curriculum offering that includes innovative STEM, Sport and Creative & Performing arts academies, trade-training facilities, and an agricultural farm. The College has achieved national and international success in Robotics, which is offered as a program to students across both campuses. Stage 6 students have access to cross-campus electives, ensuring a diverse curriculum that has resulted in sustained and positive academic results. The campus has a highly committed staff who work collaboratively across the college, and academic success, high expectations and student wellbeing are at the forefront of decision making.

Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach Language Japanese and approval and/or willingness to teach English (7-10). 
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with evidence of developing quality teaching and learning programs, lessons and resources.
  • Ability to use effective classroom management skills and wellbeing practices to create a classroom environment that is engaging, inclusive and fosters a culture of high expectations. 
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive, respectful relationships with students, staff and families. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to improve educational achievements of Aboriginal students.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
