Brisbane Grammar School is a non-denominational boys’ school of about 1800 students (Years 5 to12) overlooking the Brisbane CBD. The School maintains a 150-year strong tradition of academic excellence, extensive cocurricular activities and student wellbeing programs. About the role
All teachers at Brisbane Grammar School contribute collegially to the development of resources that both support learning and extend the boys’ understanding on the subject areas. Familiarity with the relevant Syllabuses is essential.
This is a fixed-term contract, for Term 3 2024.
Position Purpose
As the Teacher you will:
- Plan, prepare and deliver effective learning and teaching programs for every student in allocated classes and groups.
- Contribute to developing and implementing the school objectives and planning.
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school environment.
Teachers are accountable to and under the direction of the Head of Department, Deputy Headmaster Teaching and Learning and the Headmaster.
Key Responsibilities
As the Teacher you will have responsibility for the following:
- Plan, prepare and deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers; and relevant syllabi, curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
- Maintain teaching competency and currency of knowledge of relevant curriculum programs as required by the department or other relevant statutory authorities.
- Support students through interaction with them in various settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.
- Provide for students' physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing and physical safety whilst at school and enhance their overall development aligned with the School's vision.
- Assess students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
- Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance.
- Update curriculum professional development.
- Participate and collaboration in development and evaluation of curriculum.
- Participate it teacher development program and professional development.
- Participate in the cocurricular program of the School.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct (staff).
- Participate as appropriate, in school decision making processes and professional development.
Essential Skills and Requirements
- Current full registration, or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
- Demonstrated capacity in classroom management.
- Capacity to operate as a collaborative and team-oriented person in a professional work environment.
- Capacity and willingness to contribute to the welfare of students.
- Understanding of and commitment to the ethos of independent schooling.
- Capacity and willingness to contribute to the School’s co-curricular program.
- Capacity in the teaching of higher-order thinking.
- Competency in the use of ICT, and its integration into the curriculum (blended learning).
- Willingness to be involved in professional development opportunities as they arise.
