Give your teaching career a kickstart in the friendly rural community of Mount Garnet. As the K-1 teacher, you'll be responsible for the learning needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 1 in a multi-age classroom setting. Our preferred applicant will hold an early childhood qualification. This is a temporary full time position where subsidised departmental accommodation may be available.

We are a small vibrant school on the south western edge of the Atherton Tablelands, catering to around 68 students from Prep to Year 6. Our dedicated teaching staff are a wonderful mix of comparatively young and older experienced teachers. They consist of a teaching principal, three dedicated classroom teachers and three equally dedicated teacher aides who are a valued and a very important part of the delivery of our educational programs. There is an office administrator, a guidance officer who attends our school one day a fortnight, a casual grounds person and two cleaners. Multi-age classes provide students with opportunities to be challenged and extended in their learning.

Living in Mount Garnet
Located 163km south west of cairns by road, the small rural town of Mount Garnet is home to approximately 300 people. Originally a mining town, several minerals including tin, copper, zinc and garnet can still be found in the area. There is plenty to do in the local area if you enjoy the outdoors; go camping, visit Innot Hot Springs or try your hand at fossicking. The Mount Garnet Races & Rodeo on May Day long weekend are a big hit with Far North Queensland locals, for many it is an annual event on their family calendar - well worth a look.
The Tablelands region is incredibly unique with stunning rainforest, volcanic formations, crater lakes and views across rolling pastures to Mt Bartle Frere, the highest mountain in Queensland. It is also home to an amazing array of local produce, with plenty of opportunities to sample everything from chocolates and cheese to wines and the most delicious macadamia nuts you'll ever taste! You can pop into popular Mungalli Creek Dairy and learn about their biodynamic farming practices, or sit down to a high tea and daydream as you lose yourself in the beauty of the landscape.
