Queensland Pathways State College is state high school that specialises in supporting young people aged 15 to 18 (minimum grade 10), that have significant barriers to attending mainstream education, ensuring all students can succeed.In 2024, QPSC will be opening a new campus in Toowoomba at the Denise Cable Centre. We are looking to recruit highly motivated experienced teachers who can make a genuine difference to the lives of our students. About QPSC
delivers a 12-month senior transitions program to vulnerable students that are still wanting to complete their senior studies, however, have found it difficult to succeed at this in mainstream schooling. Many of our students have experienced anxiety, depression, homelessness or trauma. By developing a safe and supportive environment, these students are able to achieve their goals and positively move onto pathways in further learning (TAFE or university) or employment.
Our curriculum delivery has a strong focus on literacy, numeracy, workplace skills and wellbeing. Our positive teaching approach, creates a respectful, trusting and calm environment. Students are still able to achieve a QCE, however, we look at alternative pathways into tertiary studies. Teaching staff will be upskilled in all areas of curriculum delivery.
Your Role as Teacher
- Plan, prepare and deliver effective learning and teaching programs that are suitable to the needs of students at QPSC
- Utilise trauma informed practices to support student engagement and adjustments for students with a disability
- Contribute to the development and implementation of school objectives
- Work as part of a highly effective teaching team across the college
A preffered candidate will have the following knowledge and/or skills:
- Senior curriculum in one or more of the following areas: Essential Maths, Essential English, Arts, Recreation OR primary trained in learning support
- A current qualification in Certificate 4 Training and Assessment is favoured
- Experience in teaching in mainstream schools (secondary or primary)
- Greater job flexibility
- Small student numbers
- High level of job satisfaction (see School Opinion Survey)
- A relevant teaching qualification.
