Kalinda School for Specific Purposes (SSP), located in Griffith NSW, supports students with additional learning needs. Kalinda School supports students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with moderate to severe intellectual disability, and/or Autism. Students may have a secondary disability which could include sensory needs, vision or hearing impairment, physical impairment, complex mental health needs and behaviours. The purpose-built facility includes a heavy work space, low stimulus sensory space, library, outdoor kitchen and learning space, yarning circle, student kitchen, purpose built inclusive playground and hydrotherapy. Staff are committed to delivering high quality education for all students. Of the current student enrolment, 34% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and more than 80% of students require significant communication and/or language support. The school focuses on developing communication, literacy, numeracy and life skills and has a whole school approach to regulation and behaviour. Kalinda School utilises Zones of Regulation (ZoR) and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) to support student learning.
1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with intellectual support needs, autism and complex behaviours.
2. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, modify and monitor quality personalised learning and proven capacity to develop differentiated and innovative learning programs.
3. Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusive practices that cater for diverse backgrounds.
4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative team to build positive relationships with students, staff, and community.
5. Demonstrated experience and/or capacity to contribute to whole school programs.
