Portland Central School is situated 25km from Lithgow and 50km from Bathurst. It is a K-12 school catering for a broad range of learners with varying levels of ability. The school has an enrolment of 183 students with 38% First Nation students. Secondary has junior school 7-10 including a class for each year group. Electives are stage-based providing several options to meet the needs of students. The senior school has had a small cohort of students in recent years including a Year 12 group of just under 10 in the last 2 years. There are 4 Primary classes with one school funded for 2023. The school has 3 Multi Categorical support classes the model includes fully supported integration (K-12) and discreet intensive support classes (secondary). The Strategic Improvement Plan focuses on growth and attainment targets for all students with an emphasis on literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing (all staff trained in Berry Street classroom model). The school promotes a positive culture of high expectations. The school is part of the Lithgow community of practice with partner primary and high schools and has strong links to the Portland community.
- Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, behaviour difficulties, emotional disturbances with a focus on trauma informed practice.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate quality personalised learning and support plans including the specific needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, that reflect the needs and aspirations of the unique context of each student.
- Evidence of interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and establish effective partnerships with parents and support agencies to help support students to reach their academic and social goals.
