Position Information

Karningul School is a school for specific purposes (ED/BD), located in Regents Park within the southwestern region of Sydney. Dynamic and dedicated staff operate within purpose-built facilities to cater for a maximum of 21 students with significant behavioral difficulties aged 9 - 14 years. Karningul serves a diverse community that includes 78% of students from language backgrounds other than English. Students attending Karningul School have a documented pattern of behavioral difficulties and significant disruption to their schooling. The primary aim of the school is to build capacity in student behavior, learning and resilience to empower them to excel in their current and all future educational settings. School programs focus on the holistic development of students, incorporating a focus on social, behavioral and academic skills necessary for them to make a successful transition back into their mainstream school to continue their education journey. Karningul incorporates restorative, trauma-informed and overarching wellbeing practices that include individualised case management, mentoring and leadership development with a strong focus on building self-regulation. Each student has a teaching staff member allocated as case manager and visits are arranged with the local school on a regular basis. 


Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach primary and/or secondary.

1.Demonstrated ability to support effective integration practices by building strong relationships with key stakeholders including parents, home schools, external agencies, and non-school based Department of Education personnel.

2. Exceptional instructional leadership that drives curriculum requirements to facilitate engagement, growth, and achievement in every student with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy in a multi-stage setting.

3. Demonstrated experience leading the design and delivery of individualised case management of students with complex needs, challenging behaviours and multiple diagnoses.

4. Expertise and commitment to trauma-informed practice that builds capacity in staff and students.


General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP2 for 2024.
